BETADINE Antiseptic Solution is a topical treatment used for the degerming of skin, wounds, and mucous membranes. It is effective in various situations, such as preoperative preparation of the skin and mucous membranes, post-operative surgical wound infection, and prevention of infection in burns, lacerations, and abrasions. BETADINE can also be used to treat bacterial, viral, protozoal, and mycotic skin infections, including tinea, oral thrush, impetigo, and herpes simplex, and zoster infections.
The solution should be applied as a preoperative antiseptic skin cleanser, avoiding pooling both under the patient and in the skin folds. For hygienic and surgical disinfection of the hands, a specific amount of undiluted solution should be applied and allowed to work for a certain amount of time. For disinfection of the skin before operations, the solution should be allowed to act for at least 1 minute on skin with few sebaceous glands and 10 minutes on skin with many sebaceous glands, while avoiding the formation of pools under the patient’s body.
BETADINE Antiseptic Solution should not be used on neonates and is contraindicated in very low birth weight infants. If symptoms persist after several days of regular application, a doctor should be consulted. BETADINE can also be used diluted for rinsing and washing, with different dilutions recommended for different uses. Your doctor or pharmacist can provide more information on dilutions.
