BETADINE Antiseptic Solution is a topical treatment used to degerm skin, wounds, and mucous membranes for a range of purposes. It is applied undiluted for preoperative antiseptic skin cleansing, post-operative surgical wound infection prevention, and disinfection of the hands. The solution can also be used for treating various bacterial, viral, protozoal, and mycotic skin infections, as well as burns, lacerations, and abrasions.
For hygienic disinfection of the hands, a 3ml undiluted solution is applied for one minute, while surgical disinfection requires 2x5ml undiluted solution to be applied for five minutes. The solution can also be diluted for rinsing and washing, with recommended dilutions varying depending on the intended use.
When using the solution on the skin, the length of time it needs to act before operations depends on the amount of sebaceous glands present. The solution should not pool under the patient’s body to avoid skin irritation. Neonates should not use Povidone-iodine regularly, and very low birth weight infants under 1500 grams should avoid using it altogether.
If symptoms persist after regular application for 2-5 days, consulting a doctor is recommended. Overall, BETADINE Antiseptic Solution is a versatile topical treatment that can be effective in promoting hygiene and preventing infection in various settings.
